Tools
Directions:
The software will automatically open in another window. If the tool does
not run or you see a blank window or window with text information, then
you need to update your Java software to include the Java Web Start capabilities.
See the browser help file for guidance.
Select an image or shape to analyze. Use the following tools and options
to analyze the area and perimeter of your object.

GRID: Turns on or off an initial 2
x 2 grid. |

SUBDIVIDE GRID: Subdivides the grid
by halving each side. Use SHIFT key with this button
to undo a subdivision. |

FILL SQUARE: After clicking on this
tool, simply click on the squares you wish to be counted. You can
select squares individually or by clicking and draggring the mouse
fill multiple squares. |

SUM SQUARES: If the history option
is selected, the number and area of the selected squares will be shown
using the current scales; otherwise the information will appear in
a new window. |

DRAW LINE SEGMENTS: This tool will
allow you to draw segments of fixed length (current grid size). If
the Fixed Length menu option is not selected, you can draw segments
of any length. Simply click on the location of the first end point
and then click on the location of the next end point. If you are not
quite where you want to be hold down the mouse button and drag the
cursor until the line segment is where you want it. |

SUM EDGES: If the history option is
selected, the total length of the connected edges will be shown using
the current scales; otherwise the information will appear in a new
window. |

MEASURE: Click and drag to draw a
line segment you wish to measure. If the history option is selected,
the length of the line segment will be shown using the current scales;
otherwise the information will appear in a new window. |

SELECT AREA: Click and drag around
the portion of the picture you wish to retain. This region will be
rescaled to fit the current window. |

DRAW SHAPE: This tool allows you to
draw a curved shape of any kind to create your own shape to analyze.
Simply click on the starting location, and continue to click on additional
locations. A curved shape will be fitted to your points as you draw.
If you use the NEW menu option you can start with
a black image. |
Other menu options will allow you to open your own image stored on your
computer, to print
the current window, hide/show the history window, to set the horizontal
and vertical scales for the image, and to exit the program.
