I spent four years as a high school mathematics teacher before pursuing my doctorate in mathematics education at MSU. As part of my graduate work, I had the opportunity to spend time in several CMP classrooms and was amazed by what I observed—it was so different than my previous teaching experiences, and students were learning incredible things! I jumped at the chance to teach CMP at a local school when the opportunity arose. Now, I’m in my second year teaching 7th and 8th grade math with CMP. I am particularly interested in student engagement and motivation, teaching and learning algebra, and the development of children’s beliefs about mathematics.
