CMP Staff in the Spotlight: Sunyoung Park
Release Date: September 4, 2018
I am from South Korea and currently working on my ph.D. degree in the Program in Mathematics Education (PRIME) at Michigan State University. I am specifically interested in developing mathematics textbooks that can foster students’ conceptual understanding, as well as investigating teachers’ role in the classroom for students’ active engagement with mathematics.
While having 12 years teaching experience in public secondary schools, I have been convinced that students’ mathematical understanding relies on both well-designed problems and adequate teacher interventions. This belief encouraged me to develop my own teaching materials and to share them with other teachers. Having realized that a lot of teachers hope to have professional supports on their teaching skills, I decided to make a transition from a teacher to a researcher by shifting my focus from personal teaching experiences to generalizable teaching skills.
Personally, I have lots of fun stories related to travel, jazz, coffee and wine, bicycle, and yoga. I am very excited about working with the CMP team!
