Significant Changes: Interquartile Range (IQR), Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), Box and Whisker Plots, and Histograms have been added to accommodate CCSSM.
Detailed Description of Changes
With the advent of the CCSSM, Data about Us has undergone several significant changes. In CMP2, Data About Us was intended to be a capstone unit, tying together the content addressed in elementary school. Now, in the CCSSM, the attention to statistics and data analysis in the K-5 curriculum has been minimized so students’ experiences are limited, yet in the 6^{th} grade CCSSM, the expectations for student learning are higher. As a result, CMP3, Data about Us is intended to introduce a number of statistics and data analysis concepts that likely have not been addressed in the K-5 curriculum as well as including topics that are new at Grade 6. You will notice that the first two investigations are similar to content that was in Data About Us from CMP2. Investigation 3 introduces new content to 6^{th} grade, the Interquartile Range (IQR), and the Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD). Investigation 4 also introduces new content to 6^{th} grade, Histograms and Box and Whisker Plots.
