Remembering James Fey

James FeyWe are deeply saddened to share that James Fey passed away on July 9, 2025. Jim was a founding author with major contributions to all versions of Connected Mathematics. On a broader scale, he was a guiding force in mathematics education. With extraordinary talent and an unwavering commitment to equity, he worked tirelessly to ensure all students had meaningful access to powerful mathematical ideas and problem-solving.

Jim was also a visionary who consistently challenged his colleagues to embrace new technologies and evolving theories of learning, helping shape a forward-thinking culture in mathematics education. His influence was not only intellectual but deeply personal—he mentored, encouraged, and elevated others with humility and generosity, often putting their growth ahead of his own recognition.

Jim’s legacy endures in the curricula he helped build, the ideas he championed, and the many students, educators, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by his insight, support, and belief in what is possible. We are thankful that Jim was such an integral part of our lives at CMP.
