CMP at AMTE 2026: Meeting the Moment in Teacher Preparation

CMP at AMTE 2026 Portland

At the 2026 AMTE Annual Conference in Portland, CMP team members joined colleagues to lead a session titled Meeting the Moment: Are We Preparing Teachers to Meet Current and Future Challenges?

The session brought together perspectives from higher education and K–12 practice to examine how teacher preparation programs can evolve in response to today’s rapidly changing educational landscape. Drawing on research and collaborative work across rural and urban settings, the panel explored how sustained partnerships and carefully designed professional learning experiences can better equip future teachers to meet the diverse needs of their students.

Grounded in CMP’s long-standing commitment to problem-based learning and deep mathematical understanding, the session highlighted the importance of aligning teacher preparation with authentic classroom practice. Panelists shared insights into how targeted collaboration between universities and school districts can foster instructional coherence, strengthen mathematical pedagogy, and support student success.

We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with mathematics teacher educators from across the country and to contribute to ongoing conversations about the future of teacher preparation.
