Connected Mathematics Represented at 9th Annual MRALT Conference

On November 14th, 2023, members of the Connected Mathematics research and author team, AJ Edson, Yvonne Slanger-Grant, and Kathy Dole presented at the 9th Annual MRALT Conference in Ann Arbor Michigan. Their session, Attending to Individual Learning Needs in a Problem-Based, Inquiry-Oriented Mathematics Classroom, introduced participants to the Attending to Individual Learning Needs framework. The AILN Framework is derived from over 30 years of research and practice from field testing in CMP classrooms.

The Attending to Individual Learning Needs Framework provides teachers with a single framework to contextualize mathematical inquiry in a way that reaches a wide range of students including English learners, students with special neeeds, and academically gfited students. In the session, participants co-constructed representations of the elements of the framework could look like in their particular classrooms.

Also at the MRALT Conference was Cove Academy educators Nancy Berkas, Breanna McCann, and Alex Laube. Their session, Math Modifications Matter, explored how they have successfully approached mathematics modifications to CMP curriculum materials through innovative student accommodations.
