CMP Presented at International Conference in India

The paper presentation at the Eighth International Conference to Review Research in Science, Technology and Mathematics Education reported on one of the NSF-funded research projects. The paper, Digital Collaborative Environments: Connecting Theory of Inscriptions to the Design and Development of Student Resources was written by AJ Edson and Amit Sharma.

Published in the Michigan Reading Journal, the author's goal was to argue that shifts in the task prompts from CMP1 to CMP3 may have opened up opportunities for students to generate different kinds of arguments about the Pythagorean Theorem.

AJ Edson presented at the Third International Conference on Mathematics Textbook Research and Development in Paderborn, Germany. Understanding the importance of textbooks, this conference focuses on the vital role textbooks play as a curriculum resource for teaching and learning mathematics in classrooms around the world.

Where did the Mathematical Model of Launch, Explore, and Summarize come from? In 1980, the NSF funded the Middle Grades Mathematics Project, a curriculum project consisting of 5 middle school mathematical units and the origins of Launch-Explore-Summarize.

In 2019, CMP author Elizabeth Phillips was a plenary speaker at the 2nd annual Research Forum on Secondary Math Curriculum, held in Beijing, China. The second Research Forum on Secondary Math Curriculum was held on June 14-16, 2019 in Beijing.

CMP Graduate Assistants participated in this event by creating posters based on research done with the curriculum. The purpose of the conference is to fuel discussions about efforts to improve K-16 teaching and learning STEM. It allows researchers and collaborators to share challenges and generate new ideas.
