The Story of CMP
The Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) is a complete mathematics curriculum for middle school students and teachers. CMP was funded by the National Science (CMP1 1991-1996, CMP2 2000-2006). CMP3, 2010-2014, was developed with support from Michigan State University. CMP is a problem-centered curriculum that helps students develop understanding of important concepts, skills, procedures, and ways of thinking and reasoning in number, geometry, measurement, algebra, probability, and statistics. CMP was developed at Michigan State University under the guidance of Glenda Lappan, Emeritus, Elizabeth Phillips, and William Fitzgerald, deceased, with support from James Fey, Emeritus, University of Maryland and Susan Friel, Emeritus, the University of North Carolina.
