Changes CMP2 to CMP3: Grade 7
Overall Changes
CMP 3 has 8 units in 7th grade. One of the significant changes in 7th grade is moving Shapes and Designs unit from grade 6 up to 7th grade. This unit is about two-dimensional geometry and is recommended to be the first unit in grade 7. It provides a foundation for coming units, specifically Stretching and Shrinking and Filling and Wrapping. In this unit there is also more focus on mathematical expressions. Variables and Patterns was a 7th grade unit which has been moved to 6th grade. Table 1 provides order of CMP 3 units compared to CMP2 units. Finally, the 6th grade unit on probability, How Likely Is It? has been combined with the 7th grade unit, What Do You Expect? and some of the content in 8th grade Samples and Populations has been moved to 7th grade.

Making Comparisons and Predictions
Common Core State Standards are included in 7th grade CMP3 units. Five domains listed in the overview of grade 7 are ratios and proportional relationships, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry and statistics and probability. Proportional relationships are a major theme in grade 7. Ratios and proportional relationships are developed strongly in Stretching and Shrinking, Comparing and Scaling, and Moving Straight Ahead units. The number systems are in Accentuate the Negative and expressions and equations occur in Shapes and Designs, Accentuate the Negative, Comparing and Scaling, and Moving Straight Ahead. The three geometry units are Shapes and Designs, Stretching and Shrinking, and Filling and Wrapping. Samples and Populations and What do you Expect? encompass the ideas in statistics and probability.
