The CMP team will also present at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) in Atlanta. This session will focus on the role of artificial intelligence in identifying and supporting students’ understanding of proportional reasoning.

The CMP team presented at the 2025 MCTM Conference, sharing new CMP4 problem types, classroom tools, and insights from hundreds of field-test teachers—all aimed at helping educators design math experiences that spark curiosity and deepen understanding.

A new book co-authored by longtime CMP contributor James Fey,who sadly passed away earlier this year, offers practical strategies and lesson examples for using cooperative small-group discovery to deepen student understanding, especially in algebra-focused classrooms.

Dr. Alden J. “AJ” Edson traveled to Norway to share how CMP’s curriculum has evolved over four editions and how new AI-powered tools are helping us support student thinking, personalize feedback, and prepare for the future of math education.

We are deeply saddened to share that James Fey passed away on July 9, 2025. Jim was a founding author with major contributions to all versions of Connected Mathematics.

On June 25–26, 2025, the CMP team welcomed educators from across the region to East Lansing for a two-dayprofessional learning experience focused on Connected Mathematics 4 (CMP4).
