Detailed Description of Changes
Accentuate the Negative has a few minor changes. Most of the changes are edits suggested by CMP teachers or revision of some problems to match the CCSSM. Investigation 1 is the same, with the exception of introducing graphing inequalities on a number line in Problem 1.2, which was added to this unit to address CCSSM. Students are introduced to rational numbers in Problem 1.2 through graphing on a number line. Throughout the unit, then, students are expected to perform operations with fractions, decimals, and integers. Problems 1.2 and 1.3 have changed titles, but they still address the same concepts as CMP2.
Investigations 2 and 3 are the same as CMP2, with the exception of modifying problem titles to more clearly address the concepts that are introduced. Problem 2.5 has been moved to a 6th grade unit, since coordinate graphing is a 6th grade standard according to the CCSSM.
The first two problems of Investigation 4 are the same as CMP2; however, Problem 4.3 is new to the revision. The new Problem 4.3 requires students to make decisions about what operation is appropriate in a situation. This problem was added in place of the original problem due to CCSSM, which requires students to choose the correct operation for a situation.
New Investigation | Changes in CMP2 Investigation |
---|---|
Investigation 1 Extending the Number Line | Investigations 1 is similar to CMP 2 Investigation 1 |
Investigation 2 Adding and Subtracting Rational Numbers | Investigation 2 is similar to CMP 2 Investigation 1 |
Investigation 3 Multiplying and Dividing Rational Numbers | Investigation 3 is similar to CMP 2 Investigation 1 with minor changes in the structure of the problems |
Investigation 4 Properties of Operations | Investigation 4 is similar to CMP2 except 4.3 is new. It requires students to look at a collection of problems and determine which operation will be useful to solve the problem. |
