Shapes and Designs
Topics
Polygonal shapes, angles, rotations, measurement of angles, regular polygons, drawing triangles, quadrilaterals.
Overview of Changes
Minor Changes: repositioning and streamlining of the 6th grade unit.
Detailed Description of Changes
Since most of the mathematical goals in the Shapes and Designs unit now appear as 7th grade CCSS objectives, this unit was moved to the start of grade 7 where it provides a sound background for Stretching and Shrinking and Filling and Wrapping in 7th grade and Looking for Pythagoras and Butterflies, Pinwheels, and Wallpaper in 8th grade.
Except for some streamlining of the mathematical content and repositioning of a few problems, the content of the proposed CMP3 unit is similar to the current CMP2 unit, with the addition of two problems to address CCSSM objectives.
New Investigation | Changes in CMP2 Investigations |
---|---|
Investigation 1 The Family of Polygons | Investigation 1 of CMP 3 is Problem 1.1 and Problems 2.1-2.4 from CMP2. |
Investigation 2 Designing Polygons: The Angle Connection | Investigation 2 is Problems 3.2-3.5 and 1.4 from CMP2. |
Investigation 3 Designing Triangles and Quadrilaterals | Investigation 3 is Problems 4.1-4.5 and 3.1 from CMP2. |
